What warms the dark, yet casts no shade,
and stays beside you, unafraid?
Half of me is light, half a friend who’s true —
I am Nursamir, and I shine.

What We Cannot ControlSometimes,
talking to the right people
still changes nothing.
Fool at workThey see a kind heart and they call it weak,
But that’s a big mistake, so let me speak:
The gentle one can stand up strong and true
When the moment comes and there’s something to do,
Unlike the ones who puff up with pride,
Faking their fury so their doubts can hide.
SometimesShe thinks I’m cool, can you believe it, it’s true!
As we dance on the floor, just me and you.
By nightfall we’re under the moon, starry and bright,
With our clothes in the boot, packed up for the night.
Birthday wishesFor the year that’s ahead, I’ve a wish list to share:
Strength, motivation, and tenacity to spare.
The future’s unknown, nobody can say,
But positivity hugs those who believe in the day.
A nation in needThere are people waiting for you to rise,
To reach the goals that are yours to prize.
When you step up and take your place,
They’re free to move on and find their space,
To chase tomorrow and achieve their own,
Because this is bigger than you alone.
Above and beyondIt was given to you
Wat doen ek sonder jouJy ken die plek van my sakdoek
Mense met glas huise moenie klippe gooi nieAlle grappies op n stokkie
Intended desiresA man with big dreams and a head full of schemes
Believes in them all, or so it seems,
So hard and so fierce, with his chest puffed out wide,
That whatever he wants just moves in inside.
His wishes unpack and they put up their feet,
Now his dreams pay the rent and they’re living on his street.
It’s true for us all, and that’s no lie,
Even true for the neighbour who can’t parallel-park his ride.
ABBIEThis one’s for my Father, my Abbie, my hero,
Who works so hard his rest days are zero.
He’s the motivation for family and friends,
And colleagues who wonder where his energy ends.
My sleepLate at night when it’s time for bed,
My mind starts shouting, “Responsibilities!” in my head.
But is sleep even possible with this noisy brain?
I need my beauty sleep, I’m not being vain!
Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don’tThere’s a reason we meet the people we do,
And each comes with a time slot, like a bus or a queue.
When a close friendship ends, folks sigh, “Not meant to be,”
But I say, “It WAS meant to be!” Why not? Don’t you agree?
